National means cum merit scholarship exam is a centrally sponsored scholarship scheme implemented by Ministry of Human Resource Development with the objective to financially support meritorious students. The application form for this exam will be available on official website from 15 July 2020 onward. This exam is conducted by local educational authority for 8th std students and awards one lakh scholarships of Rs. 12000/- per month for 4 years. However, the most important condition is that the parental income must not be more than Rs.1,50,000/- per annum from all sources.
The NMMS exam consists of Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The students must pass both the tests with at least 40% marks. For reserved category students the passing marks is 32%.Also the student must have scored 55% marks in 8th standard.
NMMS is usually held in the month of November.
Students belonging to Jawahar Navoday Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sainik Schools, students studying in residential schools run by state government and students studying in private schools are not allowed to undertake this exam.
